PICTOU – A special election is required for Chignecto-Central Regional School Board District 11 (Pictou municipal districts 5, 6, 7, 11 and 12) in the coming weeks due to a disqualification among the candidates.
Scott Adamson, the successful candidate for the seat, informed CCRSB that at the time of his election to the board he was an active substitute in local schools. According to the Municipal Elections Act, Adamson was required to resign his position as a teacher before he filed his nomination papers, not after his election. As a consequence, a special election is necessary.
Adamson has informed the school board that he intends to allow his name to stand for the special election. Anyone else wishing to put their name forward, must submit nomination papers. If no other candidates file nomination papers by the deadline, Adamson will be appointed to the seat by acclimation.
CCRSB will be working with the Returning Officer to determine next steps, including the deadline for nomination papers to be filed as well as the date of the special election (if it is required).
All information associated with this process will be widely communicated to constituents in District 11 via the CCRSB website, social media and traditional media.
