The annual rivalry between New Glasgow and Truro bridge clubs is happening Satrday, Oct. 29, in Truro at the Lions Club.
Every year the clubs challenge one another to an extra-ordinary nail-biting bridge competition which sees the winner take away the coveted LION, leaving the losers with the stinky little skunk. New Glasgow is revved up and ready to take back the ferocious beast after losing it last year to the superior team from Truro which roared its way to the top.
more than 70 bridge players, from three counties stretching from Truro to New Glasgow to Antigonish, will be gathering to do battle on Saturday. The skunk and lion will be displayed prominently, reminding everyone what is at stake!
It may be challenging to know exactly who is playing for which team as players will arrive in costume in celebration of Halloween. Expect to see lions eating and playing alongside witches, while ghosts and goblins will flutter through the room. Broomsticks will be left at the door.
Registration for the event filled quickly and early. Each team will have nine teams of four card players. If past events are anything to go by, the day will be filled with laughter, camaraderie and great food. And, oh yes, some really fun bridge, too.
If anyone is interested in playing bridge, there are three duplicate bridge clubs located in Truro, New Glasgow (Stellarton) and Antigonish.
