LYONS, John F. – 66, of Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, and formerly of Halfway Cove, Guysborough County, passed away peacefully November 8, 2016. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Effie Hendsbee and Victor Lyons. John was a fisherman for most of his life, either in the inshore fisheries or at the Canso fish plant. He worked on the draggers or in the plant itself. Later in life he worked at Williams Lumber Mill, finishing his career working in Fort McMurray, Alberta. He was a rugged outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. John also loved to play darts and going to his beloved camp where he spent many days enjoying the peace of being outdoors. He was predeceased by his mother, Effie Hendsbee; father, Victor Lyons; step father, Vernon Creamer; brothers, Tommy Creamer and Maxwell in infancy. John is survived by his children, Lanetta (Tony) Antigonish; John (Samantha) Antigonish; Shane (Iona) Monastery; Jeffery (Holly) Rawdon Hills; and Dylan (Haley) Guysborough; grandchildren, Nadine, Roderick, Travis, Chaylene, Patrick, Arianna, Kaleb, Keigan and Nova; as well as by four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Christina (Steve), Canso; Hattie, Canso; Viola, Manchester; and brother, David (Grace), Half Island Cove. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life took place at the Queensport Fire Hall November 13. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
