Central Supplies is being sold to Kent Building Supplies by the end of the year.
Central owner Steve Smith made the announcement today (Tuesday) saying in a press release, “It is with many mixed emotions I announce today that effective December 31, 2016 I am selling Central Supplies to the Kent Building Supplies organization.”
Smith noted 2016 has been a “special” year for Central as the company celebrated 40 years in the business.
“But 2016 also marks a time when there is much transition and change in the world of home improvements. With your support, we have taken Central to great heights as one of the largest independently owned building supply companies in the country, but we are also at a cross roads. The demographics are changing and with it has come greater pressures to invest heavily in infrastructure and technology in order to grow and expand.”
For those reasons, he has chosen to sell to Kent, a company, Smith says, that can take the business to “a whole new level.”
Smith had good things to say about the Kent organization. “They will be committed to each of you, as I have, to ensure the operations continue to grow and prosper. They are passionate about the customer, their employees and the home improvement industry.”
None of Smith’s other businesses – including Atlantic Windows and Keltic Quay – are included in the deal.
In thanking his family, staff and customers Smith said, “What started with such humble beginnings back in 1976 has been the pride of my working life and to have shared these experiences with so many wonderful people has been an honour and a pleasure.”
