Crushers test Truro in Jr. A hockey tilt


Pictou County Weeks Crushers will play the Truro Bearcats in two MHL games this week.

The Crushers will host the Bearcats at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Pictou County Wellness centre and will visit the Bearcats on Saturday in Truro.

The Crushers posted a convincing 8-1 thrashing of the Dieppe Commandos on Sunday in Dieppe. The Crushers’ were to host the Woodstock Slammers last Thursday but the game was postponed when the Slammers could not make the trip due to inclement weather.

Their only other game was a 3-1 loss on Friday to the host Yarmouth Mariners.

The results left the Crushers in first place in the South Division by one point ahead of the Mariners and eight points ahead of the Bearcats.

Michael Dill with two goals and two assists and Benji Curtis with a goal and three assists led the Crushers’ onslaught against the Commandos.

Dylan Riley also scored twice, while Ethan Marsh added a goal and two assists. Andrew Murphy and Nick Fewer also scored.

The Crushers led 2-1 after the first period and 4-1 after the second before adding four unanswered goals in the third period.

The Mariners scored two unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Crushers on Friday. Dill scored the Crushers’ lone goal.

Meanwhile, Alexis Roy was named the NHL’s player of the month for November for collecting eight goals and seven assists. The production included two goals and three assists as the Crushers tamed the Miramichi Timberwolves 7-3 on Nov. 19.

Roy leads the league with 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points. Dill now has 17 goals and 26 assists.

The Crushers remained 19th in the latest CJHL rankings despite their two-game split.
