Major Midgets ousted

The Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets have been eliminated from the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League playoffs.

The Cape Breton West Islanders swept both games of their series with the Major Midgets last weekend at the Pictou County Wellness Centre by scores 9-0 on Friday and 6-3 on Saturday.

The Isles will advance to the league championship series and meet the winner between Steele Subaru and the Halifax McDonalds.

Gavin Hart’s second goal of the game early in the third period gave the Major Midgets some hope on Saturday, but the Islanders restored their two-goal lead later in the period and added an empty-net power-play goal with 46 seconds left.

The Islanders outshot the Major Midgets 47-24 over the game and outshot them in every period, including 17-4 in the first period when they took a 2-0 lead.

The Islanders outshot the Major Midgets 39-29 on Friday while scoring twice in the first period four times in the second and third times in the third.
