TRENTON — North Nova runners combined to win the Courtney Malcolm school running award on Monday in conjunction with the 53rd annual Joe Earle Memorial road races.

Peter Corbin, Breanna Sandluck, Allie Sandluck and Ethan MacDonald combined to win the award that goes to the school that amasses the most points based on top three finishes.

Corbin won the one-mile and five-mile male open races, while Breanna Sandluck was the top female finisher in her one-mile and five-mile events.

MacDonald also won two races: the Carl MacDougall Memorial and Jim MacArthur Memorial races.

Allie Sandluck was third in two races.

“It was a wonderful day of races,” organizer V.J. Earle said.

Youth was not exclusively served on Monday.

Bob MacKenzie, 83, of Merigomish finished the five-mile race slowly but surely.

“I’ve been running for 70 years here and there,” said MacKenzie. “I alternate biking and running four or five times a year.”

About 40 volunteers officiated at the races and prepared the meal that followed it.
