Quick response of RCMP results in arrest of male with firearm

PICTOU – Pictou District RCMP arrested a man with a loaded firearm at a business in Pictou this morning.

Just prior to 10 a.m., RCMP received a complaint of an assault involving a firearm on Veterans Drive in Pictou. The man fled from the scene where he was observed by RCMP entering a nearby business. Readers have told The Advocate it was Sobeys.

He was taken in to custody without incident. The loaded firearm was recovered at the business.

A 31-year-old man from Pictou is in Police custody. He is facing multiple charges including assault and weapons offences. He was to appear in Pictou Provincial Court later today.

The victim of the assault, a 23-year-old woman, was not injured.

RCMP would like to thank the public and employees of the business for their co-operation during the arrest of the man. As well, to ensure the public that this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to their safety.

The investigation is continuing.
