NEW GLASGOW – The Pictou County Lightning defeated the Pictou County Raptors 31-27 on Sunday to capture the Basketball Nova Scotia Girls Division 4 Under-12 championship.
The Raptors held a healthy lead into the second half of the game, but the Lightning outscored the Raptors 17-4 down the stretch to secure the win in the exciting match.
Allie Forbes led the Lightning with 12 points, while Karissa George added six points.
Namara Clarke led the Raptors with nine points, while Samantha Reid and Cheyenne MacKenzie added six points apiece.
Both teams went undefeated on their march to the mid-afternoon final.
Reid’s 18 points led the Raptors’ 43-13 victory over the St. Margaret’s Bay Slam in their cross-over match, while Forbes netted 14 points as the Lighting advanced to the final with a 40-26 victory over the BCB Capers.
Forbes netted 17 points and George added eight as the Lightning opened the schedule on Friday with a 46-24 victory over the Slam.
Forbes potted 11 points and George collected eight points as the Lightning defeated the ABA Celtics 37-10.
Allie Forbes led the Lightning with 11 points, while Maya MacGillivray and Kristina Forbes added eight apiece in their 48-19 victory over the Halifax Hurricanes.
Reid collected 13 points as the Raptors opened with a 37-17 win over the West End Steelers.
Reid led the Raptors with 21 points and Stella Canfield added 14 points in their 59-14 win over the Capers to give the Raptors a 2-0 record in their three-team pool.
