ANTIGONISH– Today, Antigonish residents will gather outside MP Sean Fraser’s office in Antigonish to express their shock and outrage at the Trudeau government’s plan to purchase the Kinder Morgan pipeline for $4.5 billion.
Organizers plan to deliver petitions signed by more than 100,000 people opposing the Kinder Morgan pipeline and urging the federal government not to give the Texas-based company any taxpayer dollars.
This action is one of more than 100 others happening across Canada, as part of the National Day of Action to Stop the Kinder Morgan Buyout.
The action will take place 12 to 1 p.m. at 155 Main Street, Antigonish (outside the Constituency Office of MP Sean Fraser)
“People are still in shock at how far this has gone. It’s unconscionable to hand over more than four billion in Canadian taxpayer dollars to a foreign oil corporation – especially when our money is so desperately needed here, for renewables and green jobs, for drinking water for Indigenous communities, and for hospitals and schools,” said Patrick Yancey, a spokesperson for Fair Climate Transition, organizer of the Antigonish event.
