It was a day of smiles and proud families last Thursday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre as nearly 300 graduates celebrated the culmination of hard work and dedication at the Nova Scotia Community College Pictou Campus graduation.
As the ceremony began, the graduates and their musical escorts could be heard before they rounded the corner, led by two Djembe drummers. Making their way along the red carpet, cameras snapped and flashes went off to capture the proud moment for many.
Students were celebrated for their great achievements by receiving some of the major awards of the day. The Governor General’s Academic Medal was presented to Holly E.J. Klein in the Business Administration-Accounting program. The Nova Scotia Community College Gold Medal went to Academic and Career Connections student, Ryan J. Cahoon. The college’s Board of Governors Award was received by Jamie R.I. MacDonald of the Business Administration- Accounting program. The president’s award went to Colin W. Aikens of the Continuing Care Program. Finally, the NSCC Alumni Rising Star Award was given to Tristan P. H. Hawke of the Adult Learning Program. This year’s valedictorian was Lee Cowan.
