NEW GLASGOW – Northern Nova United’s Under-15 boys’ soccer team came home with silver medals recently from the Soccer Nova Scotia championship.
Northern Nova dropped a 2-0 decision against Truro in the championship game.
NNU opened on September 1 against Dartmouth United. The teams have played a number of times throughout the season, having every game end in a tie.
The provincial match was no different with the game ending at 2-2.
NNU’s next opponent was Truro, who finished at the top of their league. In season play NNU won both games against Truro but in tournaments Truro was victorious in the matches.
The provincial match proved to be just as exciting with teams going goal for goal before NNU fell 3-2.
NNU took charge of the field against the host Central team on September 2 with an 11-0 victory, setting up a rematch with Truro in the championship game.
NNU came out strong in the first half controlling much of the play but unable to score. NNU keeper Thomas Schnare was in top form.
The game remained scoreless at half, but Truro found the back of the net midway through the second half and added another in the dying minutes.
