Today through September 23, Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, IGA, Urban Fresh and Thrifty Foods customers will be asked to say “YES” to donating $2 at the checkout in support of Special Olympics. Sobeys aims to raise $700,000 for Special Olympics Canada with 100 per cent of customer and corporate donations benefiting individuals of all ages with intellectual disabilities.
On September 15, Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, IGA, Urban Fresh and Thrifty Foods stores coast to coast will host “Eating Like an Athlete Food Fairs in their communities. The Food Fairs will feature Special Olympics athletes and coaches connecting with customers at their local stores and sharing samples of healthy snacks and meals for on-the-go families. Adults with a disability are 53 per cent more likely to be obese, which makes it all the more important to adopt a healthy routine. On September 15, Sobeys Better Food Fund will match customer donations made in store to a maximum of $150K.
