Crushers edge Wildcats in opener


The Pictou County Weeks Crushers will follow their opening win of the MHL regular season over the Valley Wildcats by hosting the Amherst Ramblers at 7 p.m. on Thursday in their second home game at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

The Crushers will visit the South Shore Lumberjacks on Friday and the Yarmouth Mariners on Saturday in their other league games this week.

The Crushers needed Dylan Riley’s overtime goal to lift them past the Wildcats.

Evan MacLennan gave the Crushers a 1-0 lead in the first period. The Wildcats tied the game late in the second period.

The Crushers outshot the Wildcats 50-36, including 25-12 in the third period.

Goaltender Matthew Normore earned the win for the Crushers.

The Crushers will host the Truro Bearcats on September 27 in their only other regular-season game this month.
