NEW GLASGOW – Three local basketball players have joined Basketball Nova Scotia’s Under-14 boys’ and girls’ programs.

Allie Forbes and Emily MacNeil are on the female team, while Cohen Ross is on the boys’ team.

They are members of the Pictou County Lightning Basketball Association and joining the provincial teams allows the players to continue their journey past the club’s regular season.

MacNeil is a Grade 8 student at New Glasgow Academy, while Forbes is in Grade 7 at NGA. Both have been playing in the Lightning’s U-14 A program, coached by Peter Douthwright.

Ross is a Grade 8 student at West Pictou Consolidated School and plays for the Lighting’s U-14 A program coached by Robbie MacGregor.

“We at PCBA are extremely proud of these three young athletes as they get to represent their province this summer,” said Douthwright, who is also the Lightning Association’s acting president.

All three players have enjoyed the season.

“It’s been a great year,” MacNeil said.  “It means a lot to be in the program.”

They were also playing for their respective Lightning teams in U-14 BNS provincial championships the teams are hosting today through Sunday.
