Three-vehicle collision sends one person to hospital

SUTHERLANDS RIVER – On May 13 at 5:09 p.m., Pictou District RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a collision between three vehicles at the intersection of Hwy. 4 and Shore Road.

The initial investigation determined that a pickup truck travelling East on Thorburn Road failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Hwy. 4, then the pickup collided with a transport truck travelling West on Hwy. 4. Following this, the transport truck collided with a sedan.

The 17-year-old female driver of the sedan was transported via LifeFlight to hospital in Halifax with serious injuries. The drivers of both the pickup and the transport truck were uninjured.

The 86-year-old driver of the pickup truck faces a charge of Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act. RCMP were on the scene until nearly 10 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
