Obituaries

Pictou – With heavy hearts the family of George Kipling (Kay) MacKenzie announce his passing. Kay passed peacefully, surrounded by family in the early hours of June 21, 2019 at home in Pictou. Kay was born in Four Mile Brook on November 17, 1929 to Kipling and Mary (Foley) MacKenzie, by whom he is predeceased. Kay was a member of Branch 16 of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 65 years, and served overseas in Germany following WWII. He was a jack of all trades, master painter, truck and taxi driver, and commissionaire. He is survived by the love of his life for 70 years, Kathleen (Pidgie) Langille; his children, Gary, Michael (Gail), Donna, Rick (Helen), Mary Ann (Wayne) and Scott (Suzanne); grandchildren, Shelley, Crystal, Barbi, Veronica, Lisa, Jason, Tara, Frederick, Anthony, Gavin, Erica, and Sami; sisters, Florence (Arnie) Blair and Muriel Turple; brother-in-law, Angus ‘Sonny’ MacIsaac; sister-in-law, June MacKenzie-Brown. Kay will also be missed by his many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Kay is predeceased by his children, Heather and Barry; daughter-in-law, Aggie; son-in-law, Wayne; brother, Lonnie and sisters, Anne, Catherine, and Pearl; step-brother, John; step-sister, Agnes; as well as his brothers-in-law, Dave MacKay, Hughie Turple, Joe Brown and George Fraser. Kay found great comfort in his family and was always there for them in time of crisis or need. Both our greatest supporter and most honest critic, he is forever the rock our anchor holds fast to. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and thanks to Continuing Care, the VON nurses, Fulmore’s Pharmacy and the Aberdeen Palliative Care team who provided at-home care for Kay. They went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure his, and our, comfort in this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service at this time per Kay’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
