WESTVILLE – Plans are progressing for the Westville Boxing Club’s first card on September 21 in Alma.
Head coach Aaron Kinch said up to 16 bouts are scheduled on the card which will start at 7 p.m. at Northumberland Regional High School.
Boxers from different parts of the Maritime Provinces will be on the card.
“We had three boxers scheduled and there will be a couple of Canadian champions on the card,” he said.
Club members on the card include Hunter Naugle, Bohan Pettipas and Xander Martin.
Para boxing will also be featured with Kinch contesting a match with Mitch Comeau.
Kinch said the bout is timely with the assention of para boxing to the point where it will be an Olympic sport in 2024.
“It’s my first card and it’s international,” Kinch said.
Westville’s club is a small one with four competitive boxers and a handful of others taking part.
The boxers train in what is called the dome, a medal-clad building near the corner of Main and Dufferin streets.
“It’s a good location in town,” Kinch said. “It’s working out a little better here.”
Noah Chisholm is a one recent club member.
“He’s been with us for two weeks,” Kinch said. “He’s doing very well.”
Training and sparring take place starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is mainly sparring on Fridays starting at 6 p.m.
