The swim of Pictou Harbour scheduled for today has been postponed.
The annual Government of Nova Scotia Employee’s United Way Workplace Giving Campaign and swim series was to take place today in Pictou Harbour.
The swim from Pictou Landing to the marina in downtown Pictou was to start at 4:30 p.m. and would have been the third swim for government employees.
Communication received today via the United Way and from the participating organization says: “Given the extraordinary weather all Nova Scotians experienced this past weekend, the United Way Kick Off Harbour Swims will need to be re-scheduled. This was not an easy decision but one we feel is necessary and one we took in consultation with Dr. Strang, Chief Medical Officer of Health.
“With heavy precipitation and the loss of power to some waste water treatment plants, we have been advised there is an increased likelihood of contamination. To ensure the safety of our swimmers and to minimize any potential exposure to elevated levels of contaminants due to these conditions, it is prudent to allow time for waste water treatment plants to resume full operations and for adequate tidal flushing.”
