Crushers host third home tilt with Bearcats

The Pictou County Weeks Crushers head into their third home game on Thursday undefeated in the MHL.

The Crushers will follow a 3-1 victory over the Fredericton Red Wings on Sept. 12 and a 3-2 win last Thursday against the Amherst Ramblers by hosting the Truro Bearcats this Thursday starting at 7 p.m. at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. They will play their first road game on Saturday against the South Shore Lumberjacks.

The Crushers’ two wins have earned them third place behind the Yarmouth Mariners and Lumberjacks in the South Division standings.

The Ramblers scored the first two goals of the game last Thursday, but the Crushers got goals from Jaden Mason and Jake Martin late in the period to tie the game.

Kevin Mason’s go-ahead goal in the second period stood up as the winner.

The Crushers outshot Amherst 40-31.

Against Fredericton, Logan Van de Meerakker scored for the Crushers in the first period and added a second goal in the third period, while Kevin Mason completed the scoring for the Crushers, who outshot the Red Wings 33-22.

Goaltender Andrew MacLeod is fourth with a 1.50 goals against average from winning both games for the Crushers.

Meanwhile, the MHL announced the Crushers’ unbeaten record currently has them in 14th place in the weekly Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings.
