A sign of what is to come has been installed at the site of a rest stop under construction around the main entrance into Pictou.
The sign shows that the rest stop will feature a McDonald’s restaurant, as well as an Ultramar gas bar and On the Run convenience store.
Crews have been busy pouring footings, burying petroleum tanks placing underground pipes and other items.
It’s an effort described by David Wallace, vice-president of development for Somerled Properties Inc. that is building the rest stop, to pave the required areas while trying to raise and close in the buildings as soon as possible.
He said that process will have a bearing whether the rest stop can open sometime in May of 2020.
The rest stop is located on one of the land lots created near the new roundabout. It is surrounded by the roundabout and three roads.
