CEC first, NRHS second in volleyball playoffs

ALMA — The Cobequid Cougars placed first and the host Northumberland Nighthawks placed second on Friday during the Northumberland Region junior high school girls’ volleyball playoffs.

Cobequid won its three games.

The Cougars secured the regional banner by winning its first three games over the Nighthawks, the Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals and Hants North. The Cougars also defeated the North Nova Gryphons.

The Nighthawks opened by defeating North Nova in straight games by scores of 25-16 and 27-25 before losing 25-19 and 25-14 to CEC. They later defeated Hants North and the Royals.

Hants North ended up third, while NNEC was fourth and Gillis was fifth.

Provincial championships are in the Capital Region on November 29 and 30.
