Andrew MacLeod posted his third shutout of the season, while the Pictou County Weeks Crushers got goals from Dallas Farrell and Jake Martin en route to a 2-0 victory over the Summerside Western Capitals on Thursday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
MacLeod stopped all 40 shots he faced from the Capitals, while the Crushers registered 21 shots.
Farrell opened the scoring early in the second period, while Martin tallied with less than five minutes remaining in the third period.
The win improved the Crushers’ record to 16 wins against eight regulation losses and an overtime loss in the league’s South Division.
They trail the first-place Yarmouth Mariners by two points with three games-in-hand and stand one point behind the second-place South Shore Lumberjacks, who have played four more games than the Crushers.
The Crushers will play two games against the Valley Wildcats, with the first of them in Berwick tonight and the second one starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Wellness Centre.
The Capitals lead the North Division by11 points and entered this week ranked third among Canadian Junior Hockey League teams.
