Lobster Carnival planning Chase the Ace

Community

The Pictou Lobster Carnival Committee would like to thank everyone for their continued support during fundraising events throughout 2019.

The Christmas Basket raffle brought in approximately $1,000. Gift Card Bingo raised $3,500. The Family Skate and Fireworks was a tremendous success with over a $500 profit.

One of the biggest fundraising events for 2020 will be “Chase the Ace”. The Pictou Legion, Pictou Lobster Carnival and the Pictou and Area Lions Club will be working together on this event. “Chase the Ace” will begin at the Pictou Legion on Friday, Jan. 10 with a starting jackpot of $10,000. There will be four to six vendors to purchase tickets all week besides the Legion.

In 2020, the Pictou Lobster Carnival will have plenty of chances for people to volunteer and get involved. One way would be with fundraising events and another would be during the weekend of the carnival. Residents are also encouraged to come to the monthly meetings and be part of the decision making. There are several events organizers would like to add to on Carnival weekend, i.e. Grate Run Contest; usage of the ball field like kids events — but this all takes people and ideas to plan and organize.

May – Pancake Breakfast

June – Selling tickets and BBQ

The AGM will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Oddfellows Activity Room. Members will be electing a new slate of officers and approving unaudited financial statements for 2019.

With the success for last year’s carnival and some fundraising efforts, there is approximately $25,000 in the bank.

Come out and enjoy our first Chase the Ace this Friday night (Jan. 10) at the Pictou Legion. Think strongly about joining the team to help make 2020 the best Carnival ever; many hands make light work!
