Former Central Nova MP Peter MacKay has made it official: He will run for the Conservative Party leadership.
A native of Pictou County, MacKay made his announcement official earlier today at the Museum of Industry in Stellarton, the same place where he announced his withdrawal from politics in 2015. At that time, he wanted to spend more time with his growing family.
MacKay was welcomed by an overflow crowd of several hundred supporters.
His father Elmer MacKay, former Central Nova MP and a Cabinet minister in the former Brian Mulroney Progressive Conservative government, cheered on his son from the front row.
MacKay was also supported by his wife Nazanin and three young children.
