Selects go for female hockey sweep


PICTOU — A 2-1 victory for the host Northern Subway Selects has them positioned to win a second key game against the Station Six Fire from Bedford at noon next Sunday at the Hector Arena in Pictou.

Landyn Pitts scored one goal and assisted on the other by Sara Stewart as the Selects prevailed last Saturday in the first of two meetings for the rivals in Pictou.

Natalie MacKay and Cassie Clarke also assisted on the goals.

Goalie Halle Faulkner recorded the win for the Selects, who were outshot 29-24.

The Selects have won all 22 league games they have played and sit in first place in the league, seven points ahead of the Fire. They are the only two of the seven league teams with winning records.

Stewart leads the league with 26 goals and 18 assists for 44 points.

Pitts has 15 goals and 20 assists, while Tori MacPherson is third in the league with nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points.


The Fundy Highland Bantam AA Subway Selects improved their first place record to 23-1 and extended their lead to 15 points in the standings by sweeping three weekend games.

On Saturday Maddi Beson, Lauren Smith, Josie Dunn and Olivia Marks all scored singles in 4-0 blanking of Metro West Force Lightning. Assists were provided by Bree MacPherson, Ellie Clarke, Julia MacDonald, Willa Evans and Kenzie Greencorn. Gabby Arsenault stood tall for the shutout as the Selects were outshot 31-21.

Sunday the Selects swept a doubleheader from the Cape Breton Blizzard on Sunday at the Hector Arena.

Evans, Smith and Clarke scored in the first game. Assists went to Marks, Beson and Dunn.

Arsenault provided the shutout. Shots were 31-12 in favour of the Selects.

Smith’s two goals led the Selects’ 5-2 victory. Evans, MacDonald and Greencorn also scored.

The Selects have now scored 89 goals and given up only 19 on the season.


The Fundy Highland Subway Peewee AA Selects went undefeated wth three ties but did not advance to the playoffs last weekend at the Sweetheart tournament in P.E.I. after trying their three preliminary games

Kenli Ross was between the pipes in the Selects scoreless tie against Central Storm Orange.

Hailey Taylor and Reese Murray scored in the Selects 2-2 tie against the P.E.I. Western Wind. Mya MacDonald and Murray had assists.

Alana Palmer was in the nets.

Murray scored in the Selects’ 1-1 tie with the Valley Wild.
