Weeks Major Midgets salvage playoff split


The Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets managed to split their two home games to open their playoff series against the Steel Subaru Major Midgets over the weekend at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

The best-of-seven series in the Nova Major Midget Hockey League will resume next weekend in Dartmouth.

Pictou County rebounded from a 3-2 double overtime loss on Saturday to 6-5 win on Sunday.

Ryan Green scored twice and Merle Putnam added a single goal as Pictou County rallied for three straight goals in the third period to give them a 6-4 lead. They gave up a goal with 23 seconds left to make it close.

Cale MacLaughlin, Lucas Canning and Bryson Currie also scored for Pictou County, who enjoyed a 33-23 edge in shots on goal.

Goals by Canning and Tanner Greatorex gave Pictou County a 2-1 lead but Dartmouth tied the game with less than five minutes left in the third period and notched the winner 4:21 into the second overtime period.
