WESTVILLE — Results may be down but spirits were high last Friday for the annual Curl for Cancer in Westville.
The grand total raised for the evening was $11,264 but was subject to change.
“We are still waiting on a few pledges from the Rotary Club as their meeting had been postponed due to weather conditions the week before our event,” organizer Devon Chisholm said. “We had 28 teams this year, down from our usual 40, but despite this we still made very close to our total last year which was just over $13,000. Unfortunately we did not make our goal of $16,000; however, I am pleased with our total despite all that.”
Curl for Cancer bonspiels are billed as fun-filled events. They feature teams, some of them dressed in costumes, which is encouraged.
Each team plays four ends, with games generally lasting a half hour.
Curlers have pledge sheets to fill out with proceeds going to cancer research.
Pictou’s annual Curl for Cancer at the New Caledonian Curling Club is slated for February 28 with a fund-raising goal of $10,500.
