The Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets have two chances to advance to the next round of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League playoffs.

Pictou County answered an early goal by the Subaru Major Midgets with four straight goals en route to a 4-1 victory on Friday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven series.

Landon Sim tied the game in the first period, while James Harrison sent Pictou County ahead in the second period.

Brayden Schmitt and Devin Meagher, into an empty net, completed the scoring.

Shots were 31-23 in Pictou County’s favour.

It was the first game of the series to be decided by more than one goal.

“We talked about how this is playoff hockey,” Weeks’ head coach Kyle MacLennan said after the game. “I thought we executed that (Friday). We worked hard and got rewarded for it.”

Pictou County can wrap up the series in Dartmouth tonight.

A seventh game, if necessary, is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Wellness Centre.

The winner will test the first-place South Shore Mustangs in the next league playoff round.
