PICTOU — Twenty-two teams combined to earn more than $12,000 on Friday during the 2020 Curl for Cancer at the New Caledonian Curling Club.
The announced total after curling concluded was $12,450.55 — higher than official goal set for the event of $10,500.
“We’re very happy,” organizer Cathy LeBlanc said.
The teams curled in four draws and included five youth teams and a 4-H team.
A junior boys team from the weekly program the club operates combined to earn $2,155, the highest team total.
West Surret was the top individual fund-raiser with $1,615, while Eddie MacEachern’s total was $1,220. Alta Munroe had $1,120 and Amy Baird raised $540.
The Pictou event was the last of three in Pictou County.
A similar Curl for Cancer on February 14 in Westville raised $14,000, while Little Rocks at Bluenose Curling Club raised nearly $1,300 to raise the overall total to about $30,000.
