Jr. A Crushers clinch playoff spot

The Pictou County Weeks Crushers are officially in the MHL playoffs.

The next matter is where they will finish in the South Division standings.

Jaden Mason scored twice as the Crushers gained a share of third place with the Truro Bearcats by defeating the Bearcats 6-1 on Thursday before more than 1,000 fans at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

The win also moved the Crushers within one point of the second-place Amherst Ramblers. Both teams have two regular-season games left against the South Shore Lumberjacks and the Yarmouth Mariners.

The Crushers will visit the Lumberjacks on Friday and will visit the Mariners on Saturday.

Goals by Jack Morris in the first period and by Kevin Mason, Dallas Farrell and Spencer Smith in the second period staked the Crushers to a 4-0 lead.

Jaden Mason’s two goals came in the third period.

The Crushers outshot the Bearcats 37-23.
