WESTVILLE ROAD – A National Women’s Hockey Team will be hosting two games in Pictou County this month in preparation for the IIHF Women’s Women’s World Championships.
Team Germany will host the University of New Brunswick’s female AUS team on Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. and St. Thomas University on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. There will be an autograph session with Team Germany following the March 27 game in the lobby of the wellness centre.
Tickets for both games are available at the canteen of the Pictou County Wellness Centre beginning today, March 6. $10 for adult, $5 for students and children under 8 years are free.
Team Germany will be spending the week of March 23 to 29 in Pictou County as it prepares for the 2020 IIHF Women’s World Championship. This is an annual tournament consisting of the world’s top 10 women’s hockey countries. The championship is divided into two pools with Germany in Pool B along with Czech Republic, Denmark, Japan, and Hungary. Pool A consists of Switzerland, Canada, United States, Finland, and Russia.
The 2020 Women’s World Championship tournament will be played at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax and the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro, N.S., from March 31 to April 10, 2020.
Team Germany will practice out of the Pictou County Wellness Centre from 10 a.m. to noon on March 24, 26 and 28. On game days, the team will have a pre-game skate from 10-11 a.m. Practices will be open to spectators free of charge.
