Two young entrepreneurs in Pictou are proving that not all businesses have gone to the dogs during the global health pandemic. In fact, they’re paw-sitively passionate about their venture.
Ethan Gray and Khaya Dlamini are lacing up their walking shoes and getting ready to accompany your family dog on its daily walk with their new dog walking business.
The two best friends came up with the idea as a way to make a bit of extra spending money; initially they had planned to do yard work, but decided on dog walking because it would be something they could do year-round.
“We first started with a Facebook post,” said Dlamini about the business. The post included a photo of the two walking Gray’s dog and offering their services to dog owners in Pictou. Along with the initial post, the two boys also now have a Facebook page for the business which can be found by searching Pictou Woof Woof on the social media site.
As the students are only 11 and 9 years old, they have set hours for their dog walking around their school hours with the service operating from 4 to 7 p.m. on week days, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Also due to the size of the young entrepreneurs, small and medium dogs are preferred.
Both of the boys shared that they love dogs and that seeing the dogs and getting to walk them is something they are excited for with their new business. Due to the age of the business owners the dog walking service is only offered in Pictou for $5 for a 15 minute walk and $10 for a 20 minute walk.
“We would treat them perfectly,” smiled Dlamini with Gray agreeing.
