Tree lighting and festive fun in New Glasgow

Community Featured Online First

This holiday season is different from past years, as we are in the grip of a worldwide health pandemic. But the Town of New Glasgow is ramping up its holiday initiatives.

The town is focusing on the importance of buying local and supporting local businesses.

A marketing campaign will run until Dec. 18 on the Town of NG social media profiles with daily posts dedicated to local businesses. Each post will contain information about the establishment, a picture taken by photographer Scott Munn and an exclusive offer that can be redeemed by customers.

The campaign is an initiative from the Town of New Glasgow with the support of the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce, Ignite and Pictou County Regional Enterprise Network (PCREN).

The Town of New Glasgow is also promoting a decoration contest for businesses and residences. Participants will be placed on a virtual map so that the public can check out festive properties and pick their favourites. Voting will take place from Dec. 11 to 22 on the Town’s page on Facebook. Winners will be announced on Dec. 23 and awarded prizes. The deadline to register is Dec. 10, and to join, fill out the form shared on the Town’s social media profiles. Questions can be sent to recreation@newglasgow.ca.

The annual Tree Lighting ceremony will happen Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at Glasgow Square. COVID-19 protocols will be in place to ensure a safe event. Local businesses will be encouraged to stay open later so people can shop or dine downtown.
